URGENT: Juvenile Offender Salar Shadizadi in Imminent Danger of Execution

Iran Human Rights, July 29, 2015: The family of the juvenile offender Salar Shadizadi have reportedly visited him in Rasht Prison for the last time before his scheduled execution on Saturday August 1st. Iran Human Rights (IHR) calls on the international community to react and help stop Salar's execution. "The execution of Salar Shadizadi will be a clear violation of Iran's international obligations. The execution is scheduled to take place in the same week as the High Representative of the European Union (EU) Federica Mogherini and the French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius visit Iran.

We call on the international community, especially the EU, to use all their channels to stop Salar's execution," says Mahmood Amiry-Moghaddam, the spokesperson of IHR. According to Amnesty International, Salar Shadizadi was arrested by Iranian authorities on February 2007 and charged with a murder h allegedly committed when he was 15 years old. In the same year of his arrest, Salar was sentenced to Qesas (retribution in kind) death. The sentence was later confirmed by the Supreme Court. Iranian authorities are the world's biggest executioner of juvenile offenders. In 2014, at least 14 juvenile offenders were executed in Iran, and so far in 2015 one juvenile offender has been executed.
