Six Prisoners Including Afghan Citizen Executed in Northern Iran on Drug Charges

Six prisoners in northern Iran were reportedly executed on the morning of Saturday August 6 on drug related charges. 

Iran Human Rights (AUG 8 2016): Two prisoners at Choubindar (Qazvin's central prison) and four prisoners, including an Afghan citizen, at Lakan (Rasht's central prison) were reportedly executed on drug related charges in northern Iran. 

According to Iranian state run media, IRIB, the four prisoners who were hanged at Lakan Prison (Gilan province) were sentenced to death on drug related charges. In the report, the head of the Judiciary in Gilan identifies the prisoners as: a 26-year-old man from Mazandaran, who is charged with trafficking two kilograms and 90 grams of crystal meth; a 65-year-old man from Tabriz, who is charged with possession of three kilograms and 800 grams of heroin; a 27-year-old Afghan citizen, who is charged with possession of 985 grams of heroin; and a 45-year-old man from Rasht, who is charged with possession of 980 grams of crystal meth and 10 grams of heroin.

According to a report by the state-run news site, Rokna, the two prisoners who were hanged at Choubindar Prison (Qazvin province) were sentenced to death on drug related charges. The prisoners have been identified as: Mojtaba N., 37 years old, married; and Majid H., 33 years old, married, had four criminal convictions. The report says the prisoners were caught with a significant amount of raw materials and laboratory supplies for the production of narcotic drugs. 

Iran Human Rights had recently reported on the execution of two unidentified prisoners at Choubindar Prison on unknown charges. The executions were reportedly carried out on Wednesday August 3.
