Iran: Prisoner Executed at Vakilabad Prison

Iranian authorities have hanged a prisoner at Mashhad's Vakilabad Prison on murder charges.
Iran Human Rights (DEC 12 2016): A 29-year-old prisoner was reportedly hanged at Mashhad's Vakilabad Prison (Razavi Khorasan province, northeastern Iran) on murder charges. According to the state-run news site Rokna, the execution was carried out on Sunday December 4.

Abbas Mardani, 30, and Mansour Rahiminejad, 38 and a father of one, were executed in Qom Central Prison on 31 August. Both were sentenced to death on drug-related charges.

Six women were among those executed, the highest monthly total recorded in 2026. Only 10 of the 82 August executions were officially announced. IHRNGO recorded at least 532 executions in Iran between 1 January and 31 August 2026.
