Iran: Man Executed Amid Coronavirus Outbreak

Iran Human Rights (IHR); March 14, 2020: While Iran is experiencing one of its worst crisis due to an uncontrolled Coronavirus outbreak, the authorities continue implementing execution of death row prisoners.

According to the semi-official Tasnim News Agency, a prisoner was hanged on Wednesday, March 11, at the central prison of Tabriz, East Azerbaijan province.
He was charged with “corruption on earth” for raping and abusing women, in the city of Mianeh, East Azerbaijan.
According to the agency, he was arrested around two years ago.
Executions in Iran have continued to be carried out even after the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak in the country.
