BEHNOUD SHOJAEE WAS EXECUTED THIS MORNING IN TEHRAN

Iran Human Rights, October 11.: According to sources in Iran, Behnoud Shojaee, a minor offender, was executed early this morning in Tehran’s Evin Prison.

Four years ago when he was 17 years old, Behnoud was convicted of murdering a boy by the name of Ehsan.

His execution had been previously halted five times, due to the international pressure and attempts by his lawyer and other human rights defenders.

Last night, hundreds of people had gathered outside Evin prison in hopes of being able to convince authorities to postpone the execution once again.

However, after more than four years prison, Behnood Shojaee was hanged early this morning.

The execution was also confirmed by the state-run news agency, Fars.

Mahmood Amiry-Moghaddam, the spokesperson of Iran Human Rights, said: "We strongly condemn the execution of Behnoud, which is yet another violation of Iran’s international obligation. The Iranian regime’s leader, Ali Khamenei, and the head of Judiciary, Larijani, must be held responsible for the execution of Behnoud and all other minor offenders. We urge the UN, EU and the world community to act now. It is clear that Iranian authorities do not care about international protests and condemnations. The execution of minors should be taken to the international court.
