Milad Ashoub and Milad Gholizadeh Executed for Murder in Rasht

Iran Human Rights (IHRNGO); January 16, 2023: Milad Ashoub and Milad Gholizadeh who were sentenced to qisas (retribution-in-kind) for murder, were executed in Rasht Central Prison.

According to information obtained by Iran Human Rights, two men were executed in Rasht Central Prison on January 11. Their identities have been established as Milad Ashoub and Milad Gholizadeh who were both sentenced to death for murder charges.

HRANA newsagency which first reported news of Milad Ashoub’s execution, quoted an informed source: “Milad Ashboub was arrested for the murder of Farzin Roukh Forouz, and sentenced to death by the judicial authorities.”

At the time of writing, neither of their executions have been reported by domestic media or officials in Iran.

Those charged with the umbrella term of “intentional murder” are sentenced to qisas (retribution-in-kind) regardless of intent or circumstances due to a lack of grading in law. Once a defendant has been convicted, the victim’s family are required to choose between death as retribution, diya (blood money) or forgiveness.

Edit: the identity of Milad Gholizadeh was established on January 18 and the article edited accordingly.
