Iran Human Rights (IHRNGO); June 14, 2023: Hassanali Hassanpour and Milad Ghobadi were executed for murder charges in Yasuj and Gachasaran prisons in Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad Province.

According to information obtained by Iran Human Rights, two men were executed in Yasuj Central Prison and Gachasaran Prison on 14 June. Their identities have been established as 28-year-old Hassanali Hassanpour (photo) and Milad Ghobadi.

Hassanali Hassapour was arrested for murder during a fight around three years ago and sentenced to qisas (retribution-in-kind) for murder.

An informed source told Iran Human Rights: “Hassanali was transferred to solitary confinement in preparation for his execution four days ago. The victim’s family were supposed to forgo execution but didn’t and the his execution was carried out.”

Milad Ghobadi who was executed in Yasuj Central Prison, was arrested around four years ago and also sentenced to qisas for murder.

At the time of writing, their executions have not been reported by domestic media or officials in Iran.

According to the 2022 Annual Report on the Death Penalty, at least 582 people were executed in Iran. Of those, 288 were executed for murder charges.

Those charged with the umbrella term of “intentional murder” are sentenced to qisas (retribution-in-kind) regardless of intent or circumstances due to a lack of grading in law. Once a defendant has been convicted, the victim’s family are required to choose between death as retribution, diya (blood money) or forgiveness.
