Revised: One Man Hanged in Public in Northern Iran

Iran Human Rights, May 16: A prisoner was hanged in public in Noshahr (northern Iran) today, reports Mehr, a state-run Iranian news agency.

The man (who was identified as "M.T." by Fars News, another official source in Iran) was convicted of murdering another man identified as "Amir Arsalan Sheikh-Abbasi". The execution was carried out at 5:30 AM.

According to Mehr, Sheikh-Abbasi was 25 years old and a father of two children. He was reportedly murdered with a knife in 2008 during a verbal argument.

Note: IHR had previously reported that the prisoner was 25 years old and the father of two children. We apologize for the error. There is no information available about the age of "M.T.", the prisoner who was hanged.

Three Prisoners Hanged Publicly at the Liberty Square of Kermanshah (Western Iran)

Iran Human Rights, May 6: Three prisoners were hanged in the "Liberty Square" of Kermanshah (western Iran) today.

According to the state run Iranian news agency ISNA, the prisoners were all convicted of murder.

Two of the prisoners were convicted of murdering a man , had "immoral" relationship with the man's wife and where given 6 million Toman for kliing the husband. The report didn't mention whether the victim's wife was convicted of adultery and complicity in murder.

The third man who was hanged publicly today was also convictied of killing a girl with a gun. the girl and her family had refused to get married to the man, said the report.

None of those executed today were identified by name.

Kermanshah's "Liberty Square" has been the scene of several public executions in the past few years (picture above, January 2012).

Iran Human rights strongly condemn's the new wave of public executions in Iran. Mahmood Amiry-Moghaddam, the spokesperson of IHR said: " the new wave of executions in Iran are meant to spread fear among the people in order to prevent protests in relation with the coming Presidential elections in June".

Seven Prisoners Hanged in Iran-One Hanged in Public

Iran Human Rights, April 30: According to the Iranian state media seven prisoners have been executed in three different Iranian cities in the past days.

Four prisoners hanged in the prison of Kerman on April 26:

According to the state run Iranian news agency Aftab, four prisoners were hanged in the prison of Kerman Friday April 26.

Two of the prisoners were convicted of participation in armed smugling of 263 kilograms opium and 243 kilograms of crack, while the other two prisoners were convicted of armed smuggling of 188 kilograms of crack, said the report.

None of the prisoners were identified by name.

Four other prisoners convicted of drug related charges were hanged in the prison prison of Kerman a week earlier.

Two prisoners were hanged in the prison of Varamin (near Tehran) Sunday April 28

According to the state run Iranian news agency Fars two prisoners were hanged in the prison of Varamin early Sunday morning April 28. The prisoners were identified as Ghasem B. charged with possession and trafficking of 400 grams, and Hadi Kh. charged with possession and trafficking of 547 grams of crack, said the report.

One prisoner was hanged publicly in Kazeroun (southern Iran)

According to the official Iranian news agency IRNA one prisoner was hanged publicly in Kazeroun (Fars Province, southern Iran). The prisoner was identified as S. A. and was convicted of sodomy rape.

Nine Prisoners Executed in Shiraz (Southern Iran) Today- Six Executions Carried Out in Public

Iran Human Rights, April 16: According to the official website of the Iranian Judiciary in province of Fars (southern Iran), nine prisoners were hanged in the city of Shiraz today. Six of the prisoners were hanged in public and the other three prisoners were hanged in Adel Abad Prison.

The prisoners were convicted of “Moharebeh” through armed robbery. The report states that four of the prisoners executed— identified as GhN, AHN, MZ, and BD— were convicted of armed robbery. Three other people convicted of robbery— identified as MHA, BA, NP— were also charged. Two of them were executed today and the other was sentenced to life in prison. The executions took place in three different locations in Shiraz at 6 am, 9 am, and 1 pm.

Three other prisoners, who were not identified by name, were hanged in Adel Abad Prison. They were convicted of armed robbery and rape.

According to IHR's annual report on the death penalty in 2012, the city of Shiraz and the province of Fars hold the record for the highest number of public executions.

The Deputy Prosecutor General of the revolutionary courts in Fars is among the individuals whose name is in the European Union's sanctions list.

Iran Human Rights, February 28: Six prisoners were hanged in three different Iranian cities reported the Iranian state media. Four of the prisoners were hanged in public.

Four prisoners hanged publicly in Gachsaran (western Iran) today:

According to the official Iranian news agency IRNA four prisoners were hanged publicly in Gachsaran (western Iran) today February 28. The prisoners were convicted of a rape in 2007 and were 22-26 years old, said the report. The report didn't mention whether the youngest prisoner was 22 year old at the time of committing the offence or at the time of the execution. A local website identified the prisoners as "Kianoosh Anbazpour", "Yahya Bei'atpanah", "Sajjad Soltani" and "Shahzad Basiri". Iran Human Rights is investigating this matter as one of the prisoners executed today might be a juvenile offender.

One prisoner was hanged in Semnan (northern Iran) today:

The official website of the Iranian judiciary in Semnan reported that one prisoner identified as "R. Kh." was hanged in the prison of Semnan this morning. The prisoner was convicted of possession and trafficking of 1163 grams of crack, said the report.

One prisoner was hanged in the prison of Kashan (central Iran) yesterday:

According to te Iranian state media a 31 year old prisoner was hanged in the prison of Kashan Wednesday morning (yesterday). The prisoner who was identified by name was convicted of trafficking 3 kilograms of heroin in 2010, said the report.

One Young Man Hanged Publicly In Central Iran- Four More To Be Hanged Publicly Soon

Iran Human Rights, February 20: One prisoner was hanged publicly in Arak (central Iran) today Wednesday February 20. According to the official website of the Iranian judiciary in Markazi Province the prisoner was a 23 year old man convicted of kidnapping and sexual abuse of a 15 year old boy. the prisoner was not identified by name.

The state run Iranian media also reported that four young men convicted of raping a young girl will be hanged publicly in Karaj (west of Tehran) in the near future.

Number of public executions and other public punishments such as lashing and amputations have increased significantly in the past few months in Iran and Iran Human Rights (IHR) believes that the number will increase as we approach the June 2013 Presidential elections.

IHR has registered 16 public executions in the first 7 weeks of 2013 in Iran. This is almost as high as the whole year 2012 where 19 public executions were reported.

Iran Human Rights, February 17: Seven prisoners were hanged in the cities of Arak and Shiraz according to the official Iranian sources.

Three prisoners hanged in Arak (Central Iran):

According to the official Iranian news agency IRNA three prisoners were hanged in the prison of Arak early Sunday morning February 17. The prisoners were identified as "A.B." (31) convicted of buying and possession of 1370 grams of Shisheh, "M. S." (26) convicted of possession of 1500 grams of heroin, and "A. F." (47) convicted of possession of 1382 grams of opium, 450 grams of shisheh and 390 grams of heroin, said the report.

Four prisoners were hanged in public in Shiraz (Southern Iran):

One prisoner was hanged yesterday and three prisoners were hanged in of Shiraz. All the executions were carried out in public. One prisoner was hanged publicly in the Gaz Square of Shiraz yesterday morning, reported the official website of the Iranian judiciary in Fars Province. The prisoner was identified as "A. B." (29) and was convicted of kidnapping and rape. The same website reported that three other prisoners were hanged publicly in the Sadra city of Shiraz Sunday morning (today). The prisoners were identified as "H.A.", "Y. F." and "M. V." and were convicted of kidnapping and sodomy rape of a young boy, said the report. Age of the prisoners was not mentioned in the report.

Besides the officially announced executions, the rights group HRDAI reported that at least four prisoners were hanged in the prison of zahedan. Iranian authorities haven't confirmed these executions yet.

One Public Execution And Public Humiliation of Young People By The Iranian Authorities In Tehran Today

Iran Human Rights, February 13: One prisoner was publicly hanged in Tehran today. According to the state run Iranian news agency Fars the man was convicted of murdering two girls in 2005. The public execution was carried out early this morning at "Madani Street" east of Tehran.

The prisoner was not identified by name in the official Iranian media, but according to Iran Human Rights' sources his name was "Ali Mohammad Zadeh".

Fars news agency also published pictures from the Iranian security forces' campaign of arresting "thugs" in Tehran. The pictures show that masked security forces put several young men on display in public and humiliate them (Pictures below).

Iran Human Rights (IHR) condemns today's public execution and public humiliation of the young Iranians under the pretext of "fighting the thugs". Mahmood Amiry-Moghaddam, the spokesperson of IHR said:”The campaign of public terrorization of the people in Tehran today once again reflects the Iranian authority's leader Ali Khamenei's fear of possible public protests in the coming months". Amiry-Moghaddam urged the international community to react to the Iranian authorities' terrorization and humiliation of the people.

Two Prisoners Executed In Iran Today- One To Be Hanged Publicly Tomorrow

Iran Human Rights, February 12: Two prisoners were hanged in Arak (South of Tehran) and one prisoner scheduled to be hanged publicly in Tehran tomorrow, reported the Iranian state media.

According to the official Iranian news agency IRNA two prisoners identified as "A. M." (29) and "R. M." (44) were hanged in the prison of Arak (south of Tehran) today Tuesday February 12. The prisoners were convicted of possession and trafficking of 1014 grams of crack and 1717 grams of heroin respectively, said the report.

The state run Fars news agency reported that one prisoner is scheduled to be hanged publicly in Tehran tomorrow Wednesday February 13. The prisoner who was not identified by name, was convicted of murdering two girls.
