One person is at imminent danger of execution by stoning by the Iranian authorities

Iran Human Rights, April 22: According to sources in Iran one man is at imminent danger of death by stoning in the northern Iranian city of Rasht.

The web based persian site Rooz online reported that the man is identified as "Mohammad Ali Navid Khamami" and he has been sentenced to death by stoning, by a court in Rasht.

In March 2009 another stoning was repported in Rasht. According to Rooz online the man was identified as Vali Azad and was convicted of adultery. He was sentenced to death by stoning by judge Kashani and his sentence was carried out inside the prison.

According to our sources judge Kashani is the same judge who sentenced the minor offender Delara Darabi to death.

Iranian authorities signed a moratorium with EU in 2002 according to which they were supposed to stop all stoning sentences. Since 2005, at least 6 people have been stoned to death. Two people were stoned to death in 2008 (in the northeastern Iranian city of Mashad). One man (Vali Azad in Rasht) has been stoned to death so far in 2009.
