Iran Human Rights, October 6: According to the reports from Iran, the minor offenders Behnoud Shojaee and Safar Angooti are scheduled to be executed on October 11. and 21. respectively.

In a public letter, their lawyer Mr. Mohammad Mostafaei, wrote that he was told by the Tehran court authorities today, to be present at 4 o’clock in the morning on October 11. and October 21. for execution of his clients Behnoud Shojaee and Safar Angooti respectively.

Behnoud Shojaee (21) is convicted of a murder in Tehran’s Vanak park, when he was 17 years old. According to himself, he was not responsible for the murder.

He has been on the execution list at least four times in 2008. His scheduled execution has been postponed four times in 2008 (on May 6, June 11, July 23, December 24) and once in 2009 (August 19.), mainly due to international pressure and the focus his case has achieved among Iranian and international human rights defenders and media.

Safar Angooti (20) is also convicted of a murder of another boy under a street fight when he was 17 years old. He was scheduled to be executed on May 6 this year, but due to attempts by his lawyer and attention on his case, the execution was postponed.

Mahmood Amiry-Moghaddam, spokesperson of Iran Human rights said: " We hope UN, EU and the world community do whatever they can to stop these executions, which are clear violations of the international laws that Iran has artified". He continued:"As long as death penalty for offences at under 18 years of age exists in the Iranian penal law, we will witness execution of minors in this country. United Nations must show that its conventions are more than just formalities and put serious pressure on the Iranian authorities in order to stop execution of minor offenders".
