Evin Political Prisoners Protest Security Measures

Iran Human Rights (IHR); September 11, 2021: Political prisoners in Evin Prison staged a protest against security measures and called for ban on security institutions’ involvement in political cases.

According to information obtained by Iran Human Rights, a number of political prisoners in Ward 8 of Evin Prison staged a protest against security measures on September 10.

Speaking to IHR, an informed source said: “The political prisoners called for a ban on security institutions’ involvement in political cases and chanted slogans like “stop the guards’ tyranny, we’ll expose the intelligences’ interference, release us or publicly try us, and we won’t tolerate security measures.’”

There are currently several buildings, offices and separate detention wards under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Intelligence (Wards 209 and 240), the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (Ward 2A) and the Judiciary’s Security Protection (Ward 241).

There are also countless reports about a lack of judicial independence and the interference of security agencies in political cases. Even after the confirmation of their sentences, political prisoners’ welfare is under the authority of the security agencies and includes basic rights such as furlough, phone calls, cell allocation and even access to medical treatment.
