Western Iran: Prisoner Hanged in Public

Iran Human Rights (MAY 8 2016): One prisoner was hanged in public in Kermanshah's "Azadi" (liberty) Square (western Iran) on the morning of Sunday May 8. The public execution was carried out in front of hundreds of people.

According to reports by the Iranian state-run news agencies Fars and YJC, the prisoner, who was identified as "Fardin R.", was convicted of Moharebeh (waging war against God) through participation in an armed robbery. A few people were injured in the robbery, but nobody was killed, said the reports. 

Azadi Square in Kermanshah has been the site of several public executions in the past.
