Iran Human Rights (Jul 1, 2018): IHR had earlier reported the execution of two prisoners at Rajai Shahr Prison on Wednesday. However, recent information indicates that five prisoners were executed on Wednesday. Moreover, at least eight prisoners have been transferred to the solitary confinement for execution.
According to a close source, two prisoners named Safa Ali Jalali from ward 1 and Majid Heydari from ward 7 were executed at Rajai Shahr Prison on Wednesday, June 27, which was reported by IHR, however, recent information suggests that five prisoners were executed that day.
The other three prisoners, who were executed at Rajai Shahr Prison, were identified as Hassan Gomshadi from ward 3, Javad Kamani, and Farshid Ghorbani from Varamin Prison.
HRANA news agency had reported that Javad Kamani and Farshid Qorbani, 32 and 38 respectively, were charged in the same case for armed robbery leading to murder and drugs possession. They were sentenced to imprisonment and death.
Nevertheless, a close source told IHR, “They were executed on the charge of murder.”
None of these executions were announced by the state-run media so far.
Moreover, about eight prisoners most of whom were charged with murder were transferred to the solitary confinement of Rajai Shahr Prison on Sunday. There is no information regarding the identity of these prisoners.
The execution of these prisoners will be carried out on Wednesday unless they win the consent of the plaintiffs or ask for time.
According to Iran Human Rights annual report on the death penalty, 240 of the 517 execution sentences in 2017 were implemented due to murder charges. There is a lack of a classification of murder by degree in Iran which results in issuing a death sentence for any kind of murder regardless of intensity and intent.
