Iran: Three Men Executed at Urmia Prison

Iran Human Rights (IHR); March 11, 2019: At least three men were hanged this morning at Umria Central Prison.

According to IHR sources, on the early morning of Monday, March 11, three prisoners were hanged at Urmia Central Prison (also known as Darya Prison). All three were sentenced to death for murder charges. They are identified as Khalil Salehi, Naji Omarzadeh and Hossein Ebrahimi.

The aforementioned executions are not announced by Iranian authorities or media so far.

There is a lack of a classification of murder by degree in Iran which results in issuing a death sentence for any kind of murder regardless of intensity and intent.

According to the Iran Human Rights statistic department, at least 273 people were executed in Iran in 2018. At least 188 of them executed for murder charges.
