Names of 77 November Protesters Held at Greater Tehran Penitentiary

Iran Human Rights (IHR); August 19, 2020: According to a list obtained by IHR, 77 protesters detained during the November 2019 protests are currently detained at the Greater Tehran Penitentiary (Fashafuyeh). Of those, 70 have been sentenced to between 1-9 years in prison, three have been sentenced to death and one is awaiting a conviction of moharebeh (waging war against God) which also carries the death penalty.

It has been ten months since the November 2019 protests which began after a hike in petrol prices and soon spread to most cities across Iran, with hundreds of protesters being killed. According to a list obtained by IHR, at least 77 of the arrested protesters are currently held at Fashafuyeh Prison and 70 of them have been sentenced to between 1-9 years in prison and flogging.

An informed source told IHR: "These detainees have not had access to a lawyer during their detention and most of them were beaten, tortured and mistreated during interrogation to make false self-incriminating confessions.”

Three protesters, Saeed Tamjidi, Mohammad Rajabi and Amirhossein Moradi have been sentenced to death on the charge of moharebeh, and another is awaiting sentencing on the same charge.

Fashafuyeh Prison is located about 32 km south of Tehran and with an area of ​​110 hectares, it is the largest prison in the Middle East. However, the water is undrinkable and prisoners are forced to buy their own bottled water from the commissary. There have also been numerous reports on the poor food and sanitation conditions in the prison.

4- Hossein Armand Moradlou, sentenced to 6 years and 6 months in prison on charges of assembly and conspiracy to act against domestic national security and helping to demolish public property

 

5- Mohsen Sabzali, sentenced to 5 years in prison on charges of assembly and conspiracy to act against national security

6- Kianoosh Jamali, sentenced to 5 years and 3 months in prison on charges of assembly and conspiracy to act against national security (rioting), destroying and disturbing public order and peace

 

7- Hadi Khatamian, sentenced to 3 years and 4 months in prison on charges of assembly and conspiracy to act against domestic national security (rioting)

 

8- Saeed Tamjidi, sentenced to death on charges of assembly and conspiracy to act against national security, participation in disturbing public order and security with the aim of confronting the Islamic government through blocking traffic and burning rubbish bins

 

9- Mohammad Rajabi, sentenced to death on charges assembly and conspiracy to act against national security (rioting ), participating in arson and destroying public property

 

10- Sina Khateri, sentenced to 3 years in prison on charges of assembly and conspiracy to act against national security
