Iran Human Rights (IHRNGO); October 26, 2021: Peyman Nouri, on death row for rape, was transferred to solitary confinement in preparation for his execution in Ardabil Central Prison.

According to information obtained by Iran Human Rights, a death row prisoner was transferred from Ward 1 of Ardabil Central Prison to solitary confinement in preparation for his execution. His identity has been established as 28-year-old Peyman Nouri who was sentenced to death for rape charges and his family have already said their goodbyes in their last visit with him.

“Peyman Nouri was arrested with five others around five years ago. One of them was executed and three others received life sentences. The fifth one, Ali Nasiri, was under 18 years old at the time of arrest and was sentenced to five years imprisonment and there’s Peyman Nouri who is about to be executed,” informed sources told Iran Human Rights.

Iran is one of the few remaining countries to issue the death penalty for rape. In cases involving rape, the likelihood of defendants being tortured to force a confession and issuing the death sentence based on the false confession, is very high. At least 12 people were executed on rape charges in 2020, 16 in 2019 and 23 in 2018.
