Iran Human Rights (IHRNGO); November 26, 2021: Former political prisoner, Mohammadreza Pourshajari who had been living as a refugee in Turkey, has died of COVID-19 in Yalova Hospital.
According to information obtained by Iran Human Rights Mohammadreza Pourshajari known as Siamak Mehr passed away at the age of 58 from COVID-19 at Yalova Hospital.
Mohammadreza Pourshajari was arrested in 2010 for posting his thoughts and ideas on his personal blog, “Report to Iran” and sentenced to four years imprisonment for charges of “acting against national security”, “blashphemy” and “insulting the leader.”
He was arrested again in 2014 when trying to escape Iran and sentenced to more prison time which he served before being exiled to Yazd.
He finally managed to escaped Iran in March 2016 and claimed asylum in Turkey.
Iran Human Rights extends its deepest condolences to Mr Pourshajari’s family and friends, especially his daughter Mitra who is also a human rights activist.
