Shah Gholam Kanjourian Executed for Drug Offences in Babol

Iran Human Rights (IHRNGO); June 18, 2022: Shah Gholam Kanjourian was executed for drug-related charges in Babol Prison.

According to HRANA news agency, a man was executed in Babol Prison on the morning of 16 June. His identity has been reported as 48-year-old Shah Gholam Kanjourian who was sentenced to death for drug-related charges by the Revolutionary Court after his arrest two years ago.

At the time of writing, his execution has not been reported by domestic media or officials in Iran.

According to reports compiled by Iran Human Rights, at least 126 people were executed on drug-related charges in 2021, a fivefold increase compared to drug executions in the previous three years. Iran Human Rights also reported the execution of at least 70 people in the first five months of 2022. None of the 2021 and January-May 2022 drug-related executions were reported by official sources.
