Iran Human Rights (IHRNGO); December 13, 2023: State media have reported the execution of an unnamed man for the murder of a former representative to the Supreme Leader in Babol Prison.
According to ISNA, a man was executed in Babol Prison on 13 December. The unnamed man was sentenced to qisas (retribution-in-kind) for murder.
The defendant was accused of killing Abbasali Soleimani, a former Khamenei representative and member of the Assembly of Experts in a Babolsar bank on 26 April 2023.
Those charged with the umbrella term of “intentional murder” are sentenced to qisas (retribution-in-kind) regardless of intent or circumstances due to a lack of grading in law. Once a defendant has been convicted, as the plaintiffs, the victim’s family are required to choose between death as retribution, diya (blood money) or forgiveness.
