Iran Human Rights, April 28: Behnood, a minor offender who was sentenced to death for a murder he allegedly committed at the age of 17, is scheduled to be hanged in 9 days (May 7), reported the Iranian daily newspaper Etemad today. Behnood was informed by the prison officials yesterday, that he is scheduled to be hanged to death on May 7 (18. Ordibehesht), according to the report.

Behnood was convicted of a murder at Tehran’s Vanak park three years ago. Behnood who believes he is not responsible for the murder, has written a letter to the head of the Iranian judiciary asking him to halt the death sentence.

Iran has ratified the UN’s convention of children’s right which banns death penalty for the offences committed at under 18 years of age.

According to many human rights activists, it seems that international pressure could be the only way to save Behnood’s life.
