Four men were hanged in public in the province of Bushehr today

Iran Human Rights, July 10: Four men were hanged in public in the town of Borazjan, in the province of Bushehr south of Iran, early this morning July 10 reported the state run local news agency Eram News. The men who were identified by their initials, were all convicted of murder according to the news. One of the men was of Afghan origin while the three others were from the province of Bushehr.

The public hangings were a warning to "ashrar" (a term used for those who disrupt public order and who fight with the authorities) of this region according to the report.

According to the oreder, only after special permission from Mr Shahroudi, public hangings could be carried out. Todays public hangings were the first known public hangings since end of January 2008.

Another man was scheduled to be hanged in public near the city of Varamin (close to Tehran) this morning.
