Six men were hanged in public in the Northern city of Sabzevar, today July 14

Iran Human Rights, July 14, 2008: Six men were hanged in public in the city of Sabzevar located in the Northern Iranian province of Khorasan this morning, reported the Iranian state radio today. The men were not identified by name and no details of their charges were revealed in the report. They were just named as "arazel", a term the Iranian authorities use about what they claim as being "trouble makers".

This increases the number of public hangings to ten, during the past 4 days! On Thursday July 10, 4 people were hanged in the southern town of Borazjan.

It seems that the Iranian authorities have re-initiated the public hangings after they were banned at the end of January 2008.

According to some activists, the public hangings are an effort by the Iranian authorities to face the increasing public unrest in Iran.

The news of todays public hangings was broadcasted in several Iranian exile media such as Radio Farda.
