Bahman Soleimani (Soleymani), convicted of a murder at the age of 15, is at imminent risk of execution

Iran Human Rights, August 23: Bahman Soleimani (27) is at imminent risk of execution for an offence he allegedly committed when he was 15 years old, wrote Mohammad Mostafaei, the lawyer of more than 30 minor offenders on the death row in Iran.

According to the letter which Mr. Mostafaei wrote in his weblog, Bahman is at the prison of Isfahan and has been told that he will be executed within the coming days. He is convicted of murdering his grandmother when he was 15 years old.

Last week another minor offender, Reza Hejazi was hanged in the prison of Isfahan, convicted of a murder he allegedly committed when he was 15 years old.

Iran has ratified the UN’s convention for the rights of the child, that bans death penalty for offences committed at under 18 years of age. However at least 5 minor offenders have been executed in Iran so far in 2008 and more than 150 minors are on the death row in the Iranian prisons.
