Minor offender, Hossein, is in danger of execution

Iran Human Rights, September 6: The death sentence of a minor offender identified as "Hossein", was approved by the Iranian supreme court today, reported the state run news agency ISCA news.

Hossein (19) is convicted of a of having stabbed "Ali" under a street fight in Tehran, which allegedly resulted in Ali’s death. The incident, where several other people were also involved, happened two years ago when Ali was 17 years old, said teh report.

According to the report Hossein who earlier had confessed to the offence, denied the charges in the court. He also claimed that he had confessed under pressure.

However, the judges sentenced him to death and his sentence was approved by the supreme court today.

He joins the list of more than 150 minor offenders on the death row in Iran.

So far six minor offenders have been executed in 2008 in Iran. The last one was Behnam Zare who was hanged in Shiraz on August 26 2008, for an offence he allegedly committed when he was 15 years old.
