In Iran: Ramin Hossein Panahi Sentenced To Death

Iran Human Rights (Jan 26, 2018): Ramin Hossein Panahi, a political prisoner, is sentenced to death by the Islamic Revolutionary Court in Iran.

According to a close source, the Revolutionary Court of Sanandaj sentenced Ramin Hossein Panahi to death on the charge of rebellion against the Islamic regime. The sentence was announced to his family and lawyer on Thursday, January 26.
Ramin Hossein Panahi was shot and arrested by the Revolutionary Guards on Friday, June 23, 2017. The Revolutionary Guards claimed that he was armed while his family reject the claim.
The political prisoner was transferred to Sanandaj Central Prison on January 9, 2018, after 200 days in solitary confinement of the Intelligence Organization of IRGC and the Ministry of Intelligence.
"The verdict was announced to me today, and I have 20 days to request an appeal which I will do, and I hope that the Supreme Court will consider the objection," told Hossein Ahmadi Niaz, Ramin Hossein Panahi's lawyer, to Iran Human Rights (IHR).
He also said, "My client does not deserve this punishment. He was arrested after an armed dispute, but he believes that he didn't use a gun and he was shot and passed out immediately, therefore, it wasn't an armed dispute."
Ramin Hossein Panahi's trial was held on January 15, 2017. He was sentenced to death in the first session on the charge of "rebellion against the regime, acting against the national security, and being a member of Komala Party of Iranian Kurdistan."
"Ramin had never been involved in an armed dispute. The Ministry of Intelligence has accused him, to take revenge from his family for their political activities," Said Amjad Hossein Panahi, the prisoner's brother, to Iran Human Rights (IHR).
He added, "The Ministry of Intelligence told our family several times that Ramin will be executed. They charged him with rebellion while he had never been in an armed dispute."
Based on Article 287 of the Islamic Penal Code, only those convicted of an armed uprising against the Islamic Republic will be sentenced to death if they use a weapon.
