Concern About Arash Sadeghi’s Health Condition

Iran Human Rights (Jun 28, 2018): Arash Sadeghi, who is diagnosed with the bone tumor, has not been sent to a hospital for further examination due to the irresponsibility of prison authorities

According to a close source, x-rays of Arash Sadeghi’s arm showed a bone tumor. Based on the early diagnosis of the prisoner’s disease, he may have bone cancer but the prison authorities won’t let his family take care of his condition.

One of Arash Sadeghi’s relatives told IHR, “Arash felt pain in his arm and neck. After the radiology, doctors suspected a bone cancer. He was supposed to be sent to Tehran Cancer Institute to find out whether his tumor was benign or malignant, however, the authorities have refused to do so.”

He also said, “Arash had requested that his family receive his medical records but the prosecutor declined the request and said that prisoners should be hospitalized in the hospitals that the prison authorities or prosecutors choose. Apparently, the prosecutor has chosen Madani Hospital in Karaj, which is known as funeral home.”

The irresponsibility and reluctance of the authorities may make Arash Sadeghi’s health condition worse. For this reason, Iran Human Rights urges the authorities to send this prisoner to an advanced medical center immediately and unconditionally.

Arash Sadeghi was first arrested on July 9, 2009, along with some other students who were protesting the results of the controversial 2009 presidential election. After 90 days he was released on bail. He was arrested in May 2014 and was released after six months on a bail of 600 million Tomans. When he was out of prison, the agents of the Ministry of Intelligence rushed into his house causing his mother to have a heart attack and pass away.

The political activist was arrested in June 2016 for the last time and was transferred to Evin prison to serve a 19-year prison term. He went on a hunger strike for 70 days in November 2016 and was transferred to Rajai Shahr Prison in October 2017.

Arash Sadeghi’s wife, Golrokh Ebrahimi Irayee, was sentenced to six years in prison, Navid Kamran to one year, and Behnam Musivand to three years. They were all arrested on September 6, 2014.

Arash Sadeghi is currently held at Rajai Shahr Prison and his wife, Golrokh Ebrahimi Irayee, at women’s ward in Evin Prison.
