Iran Executions: Two Prisoners Hanged at Rajai Shahr Prison

Iran Human Rights (Jul 4, 2018): At least two prisoners were executed at Rajai Shahr Prison on murder charges.

According to a close source, on the morning of Wednesday, July 4, two prisoners were executed at Rajai Shahr Prison. The prisoners, sentenced to death on murder charges, were identified as Javad Darabi and Mohammad Nourafkan.

Javad Darabi was transferred to the solitary confinement last Saturday and was executed on Wednesday after staying in the solitary confinement for the whole week. A close source had earlier said that the prisoner was transferred to the solitary confinement a week earlier by mistake.

The execution of these prisoners has not been announced by the state-run media so far.

According to Iran Human Rights annual report on the death penalty, 240 of the 517 execution sentences in 2017 were implemented due to murder charges. There is a lack of a classification of murder by degree in Iran which results in issuing a death sentence for any kind of murder regardless of intensity and intent.
