Iran Human Rights, February 23: One woman is at imminent risk of execution in Iran. According to the Iranian daily newspaper Etemad, the woman who is identified as Ashraf, is convicted of adultry and her death sentence could be carried out in very near future.

Shadi Sadr, Ashraf’s lawyer, told the newspaper that Ashraf’s execution was halted in 2006, and we were hoping that she will be pardoned, but we have now been informed that she will be among the first groups being executed in Tehran.

According to our sources, the woman is Ashraf Kalhori who was sentenced to death by stoning and whose stoning sentence received much attention in 2006.

Ashraf was sentenced to death by stoning for having affair with Ali Akbar who was convicted of murdering Ashraf’s husband. Ashraf has denied any sexual affair with Ali Akbar, but the judge sentenced her to death based on his "insight".

Abdollah Farivar who also was sentenced to death by stoning for adultry, was hanged on Thursday February 19. after his sentence was changed from stoning to hanging.

Human rights defenders express increasing concern about the possibility that other at least 10 sentenced to stoning will be hanged in near future.
