Iran Executions: Prisoner Executed in Shiraz Central Prison

Iran Human Rights (IHR); July 9, 2020: A prisoner sentenced to retribution in kind (death) on charges of premeditated murder, was executed in Shiraz Central Prison.

According to Iran Human Rights, the identity of the man executed in Shiraz Central Prison today, has been established as Amirabbas Salehi, 36, from Marvdasht.

An informed source has told IHR that "Amirabbas was sentenced to death for killing one of his neighbours in an honour killing and has been in prison since 2016."

At the time of publication, the execution of this prisoner has not been announced by local media or officials.

According to Iran Human Rights’ annual report, at least 225 of the 280 of those executed in 2019 were charged with "premeditated murder."

As there are no legal distinctions made between murder and manslaughter, whether voluntary or involuntary in Iran, those charged under the umbrella term of “premeditated murder” will receive the death penalty regardless of intent (mens rea) and the circumstances.
