Iran: Prisoner Mohammad Hadi Dadian Executed in Yasuj

According to HRANA news agency, on the morning of Monday, July 13, a prisoner on death row was executed in Yasuj Central Prison. The identity of the prisoner has been established as Mohammad Hadi Dadian, around 25 years old, who was sentenced to retribution in kind for "premeditated murder" which occurred during a fight.

Mohammad's funeral was held on Monday evening in one of the villages of Boyer-Ahmad county, located in Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad province.

An informed source from Yasuj, said: “Mr Dadian was accused of stabbing the victim to death during a fight. He has been in Yasuj Prison since then, and despite the elders and Mr Dadian’s relatives mediation attempts and many people from Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad province turning up outside the Yasuj Prison building to gain the victim’s family’s consent not to execute him, they refused to grant the consent and they ultimately executed Mr Dadian.”

At the time of publication, the execution of this prisoner has not been announced by local media or officials.

According to Iran Human Rights’ annual report, at least 225 of the 280 of those executed in 2019 were charged with "premeditated murder."

As there are no legal distinctions made between murder and manslaughter, whether voluntary or involuntary in Iran, those charged under the umbrella term of “premeditated murder” will receive the death penalty regardless of intent (mens rea) and the circumstances.
