URGENT: 14 PEOPLE ARE SCHEDULED TO BE HANGED IN PUBLIC IN AN IRANIAN CITY TOMORROW JULY 14.

Iran Human Rights, July 13: According to the state run Iranian news agency Fars, 14 people are scheduled to be hanged in public in the southeastern Iranian city of Zahedan tomorrow July 14.

According to the report all the 14 people are connected to "Jondollah", a militant Baluchi group belonging to Abdolmalek Rigi, and are convicted of "moharebe" (fighting against God; a term used for people fighting against the Iranian authorities). Abdolhamid Rigi, brother of Abdolmalek Rigi leader of the group, is among the 14 said the report. None of the other 13 have been identified by name in the report.

The hanging will take place in "Laleh" park of Zahedan at 06:30 AM said the report.

Mahmood Amiry-Moghaddam, spokesperson of Iran Human Rights, said: The public hangings are meant to spread fear among the people and are part of the execution wave Iranian authorities have started in the aftermath of the pro-democracy demonstrations in Iran".

He continued: " We can not confirm that these 13 actually are connected to Jondollah. In August 2008, Yaqub Mehrnehad, a well-known blogger and activist, was executed convicted of Moharebeh and connection with the Jondollah group. However, there were no prior indications of Mehrnehad being connected with "Jondollah" or taking part in any other militant group. He, in the same way as the 14 who are scheduled to be hanged tomorrow, was tried in a revolutionary court, closed to the public."

Amiry-Moghaddam added: "No matter what these people are charged with, we condemn the executions and ask the international community to do whatever they can to stop the violations of the human rights by the Iranian authorities"

Since beginning of July 2009, at least 37 people have been executed in Iran.
