Iran: 2 More Prisoners Transferred for Execution in Sanandaj

Iran Human Rights (IHR); January 1, 2021: Two death row prisoners in Sanandaj Central Prison have been transferred to solitary confinement in preparation for their executions. Over the past week, another male and female prisoner were executed at the same prison.

According to Iran Human Rights, two male death row prisoners were transferred to solitary confinement in preparation for their executions on Thursday, 31 December 2020. The first, political prisoner, Hemen Mostafaei was sentenced to death on charges of membership in an opposition party and being an accomplice in murder.

According to the Centre for Democracy and Human Rights in Kurdistan, Hemen Mostafaei was tortured to force a false televised confession which was aired as part of a documentary on Press TV. In the documentary, Hemen Mostafaei who was arrested along with Bayan Kakehi, Hiva Dadafarin, Khalil Shirzadi, all “confess” to killing IRGC retiree Ebrahim Mohammadi on the evening of Monday, 25 February 2013, in exchange for 300 million Tomans from a dissident group.

The second prisoner, identified as Saeed Mohammadi-Fard from Kermanshah, was sentenced to qisas (retribution-in-kind) for murder.

An informed source told IHR: “Father of two, Saeed Mohammadi-Fard was arrested and sentenced to death by Branch One of the Sanandaj Criminal Court around six years ago. He was transferred to solitary confinement in preparation for his execution in August 2020, but managed to buy time from his victim’s family to come up with the 2 billion Tomans diyya (blood money). If he cannot pay the diyya, he will be executed on Sunday.”

It is worth noting that over the past week, another male and female prisoner have executed at Sanandaj Central Prison.
