Iran: Prisoner Fateh Ghaderi Transferred for Execution in Sanandaj

Iran Human Rights (IHR); December 15, 2020: A prisoner sentenced to qisas (retribution-in-kind) for murder, was transferred to solitary confinement in preparation for his execution at Sanandaj Central Prison.

According to Iran Human Rights, a death row prisoner was transferred to solitary confinement in preparation for his execution at Sanandaj Central Prison. The prisoner whose identity has been established as 46-year-old Fateh Ghaderi from Sarvabad, was sentenced to qisas (retribution-in-kind) for murder.

Informed sources told IHR: “Tonight, the Ghaderi family will visit the victim’s family along with the village chief and elders, to ask that they consent so that Fateh will not be executed.”

According to Iran Human Rights’ annual report, at least 225 of the 280 of those executed in 2019 were charged with "premeditated murder."

As there are no legal distinctions made between murder and manslaughter, whether voluntary or involuntary in Iran, those charged under the umbrella term of “premeditated murder” will receive the death penalty regardless of intent and the circumstances.
