Iran Human Rights (IHR); March 4, 2021: A prisoner sentenced to qisas (retribution-in-kind) for murder has been executed in Noshahr Prison.

According to Iran Human Rights, a male prisoner was executed in the early hours of March 2, in Noshahr Prison. The prisoner whose identity has been established as Fatah Hosseini, had been sentenced to qisas (retribution-in-kind) on murder charges.

According to informed sources, Fatah Hosseini was sentenced to death for a murder he was accused of committing about 10 years ago.

At the time of writing, Fatah Hosseini’s execution has not been reported by domestic media or officials in Iran.

As there are no legal distinctions made between murder and manslaughter, whether voluntary or involuntary in Iran, those charged under the umbrella term of “premeditated murder” will receive the death penalty regardless of intent and the circumstances.
