Political Prisoner Ghader Mohammadzadeh on Hunger Strike in Yazd

Iran Human Rights (IHR); August 6, 2021: Kurdish political prisoner, Ghader Mohammadzadeh who has been behind bars for almost 17 years, has been on hunger strike for a week in Yazd Central Prison.

According to information obtained by Iran Human Rights, Ghader Mohammadzadeh who is a political prisoner in Ward 3 of Yazd Central Prison, has been on hunger strike since July 31 in protest to “his furlough being rejected and his bail being seized.”

Ghader Mohammadzadeh is a 44-year-old Bukan native who has been behind bars on political charges for almost 17 years.

Speaking to IHR, an informed source said: “The Mahabad Prosecutor seized the Mohammadzadeh family’s 1 billion toman bail two months ago and has now refused his request for furlough saying that he is a mohreb (enemy of god) and is not eligible for furlough or being released on bail. That’s why Ghader Mohammadzadeh has gone on hunger strike and has said they either have to take my corpse out of Yazd Prison or they have to agree to my furlough.”

Ghader was arrested by Bukan Intelligence on 11 December 2005 and sentenced to 20 years imprisonment and exile to Yazd Central Prison by the Mahabad Revolutionary Court on charges of “moharebeh through membership of the Komala Party of Iranian Kurdistan.” He has never been granted furlough.
