Iran Human Rights (IHRNGO); December 10, 2021: Death row Baluch prisoner, Abdolsalam Barahouyi has been transferred to solitary confinement in preparation for his execution in Isfahan Central Prison.

According to information obtained by Iran Human Rights, a man was transferred to solitary confinement in prepration for his execution in Isfahan Central Prison this morning. His identity has been established as Abdolsalam Barahouyi who was sentence to death for drug-related offences.

Speaking to Iran Human Rights, an informed source said: “Abdolsalam Barahouyi has a small child. He was arrested and sentenced to death for carrying 50 kilograms of drugs.”

According to Hal Vash which first reported of his transfer to solitary confinement, prison officials have contacted his family and asked to come and pay their last visit to their son.

According to Iran Human Rights’ Annual Report on the Death Penalty in Iran, at least 25 people were executed on drug-related charges in 2020. However, at least 116 people, including two women, have so far been executed on the same charge in 2021.

Yesterday, Iran Human Rights issued another warning at the rise of drug executions in Iran which are now at a four-year record high and called on the international community for an immediate and strong response.
