Valijan Rahmi Executed for Drug Offences in Qom

Iran Human Rights (IHRNGO); January 17, 2022: Valijan Rahmi who was sentenced to death on drug-related charges, has been executed in Qom Central Prison.

According to information obtained by Iran Human Rights, a man was executed in Qom Central Prison on the morning of January 17. His identity has been established as 56-year-old Valijan Rahmi who was held in Ward 3 of the prison prior to his execution.

An informed source told Iran Human Rights: “Valijan Rahmi was from Shabestar and was arrested for drug offences around seven years ago and sentenced to death. He sold cigarettes prior to his arrest.”

At the time of writing, Valijan’s execution has not been reported by domestic media or officials in Iran.

According to Iran Human Rights’ Annual Report on the Death Penalty in Iran, at least 25 people were executed on drug-related charges in 2020.

On December 10, Iran Human Rights warned again of the rise in drug-related executions, which is now at a four-year record high and called on the international community for a prompt reaction.
