Iran Human Rights (IHRNGO); January 26, 2022: Brothers Yasser and Younes Nourizadeh have been sentenced to death on drug-related charges by the Yazd Revolutionary Court.

According to information obtained by iran Human Rights, 27-year-old Yasser Nourizadeh and 39-year-old Younes Nourizadeh were notified of their death sentences in the last week. The brothers who are detained in Yazd Central Prison were arrested on charges of carrying 70 kilograms of methamphetamines.

Yasser and Younes are from Sardasht and were arrested in August 2020.

According to Iran Human Rights’ Annual Report on the Death Penalty in Iran, at least 25 people were executed on drug-related charges in 2020.

On December 10, Iran Human Rights warned again of the rise in drug-related executions, which is now at a four-year record high and called on the international community for a prompt reaction.
