Mosayeb Faraji Executed for Murder in Kermanshah

Iran Human Rights (IHRNGO); February 14, 2022: Mosayeb Faraji who was sentenced to qisas for murder, was executed in Kermanshah Central Prison on February 13.

According to information obtained by Iran Human Rights, a man was executed in Kermanshah Central Prison on the morning of February 13. His identity has been established as Mosayeb Faraji who was sentenced to qisas (retribution-in-kind) for murder.

Speaking to Iran Human Rights, an informed source said: “Mosayeb’s brother, Mozafar, was killed by a glass bottle 15 years ago. The person accused of killing his brother in the fight was released a year later. Three years ago, one of the man’s relatives was killed, Mosayeb was arrested and sentenced to death for that murder.”

At the time of writing, Mosayeb’s execution has not been reported by domestic media or officials in Iran.

According to Iran Human Rights’ Annual Report on the Death Penalty, at least 211 of the 267 people executed in 2020 were sentenced to qisas (retribution-in-kind) for "premeditated murder."

As there are no legal distinctions made between murder and manslaughter, whether voluntary or involuntary in Iran, those charged under the umbrella term of “premeditated murder” will receive the death penalty regardless of intent and the circumstances.
