Civil Activist Saba Kordafshari’s Sentence Reduced by Supreme Court

Iran Human Rights (IHRNGO); April 28, 2022: The Supreme Court has overturned civil activist, Saba Kordafshari’s 15 year sentence for charges of “inciting and facilitating corruption and prostitution” through unveiling. She will have to serve five years for other charges.

According to information obtained by Iran Human Rights, the Supreme Court has overturned Saba Kordafshari’s 15 year sentence for “inciting and facilitating corruption and prostitution” through walking on the street without a head veil.

An informed sources told Iran Human Rights: “Saba Kordafshari’s lawyer had filed a claim at the Supreme Court several months ago challenging the charges of ‘inciting and facilitating corruption and prostitution.’ Fortunately Saba was acquitted of the charges by the Supreme Court. Now the longest sentence she has to serve is five years for ‘assembly and collusion against national security.’”

Saba Kordafshari, born in 1998, was tried on 27 August 2019 by Branch 26 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Iman Afshari. She was sentenced to 24 years imprisonment: 15 years in prison for “inciting and facilitating corruption and prostitution” through unveiling, seven and a half years for “assembly and colluding against national security”, a year and a half for “propaganda against the system” along with social restrictions.

Saba was serving her sentence in Evin Prison before being prison-exiled to Qarchak Prison on 2 December 2020, where she is today.
