Unnamed Man Executed for Armed Robbery

Iran Human Rights (IHRNGO); May 26, 2022: The Tehran Prosecutor has announced the execution of a prisoner on charges of moharebeh (enmity against God) for armed robbery.

Quoting Ali Salehi, the Tehran Prosecutor, ILNA has reported the execution of an unnamed man on May 25. The location of the execution was not specified in the report.

“The armed robber with the initials of R.A had formed a racketeering and armed robbery gang with two other accomplices. Using weapons, they created fear in East Tehran, the Javadieh and Tehran Pars areas in particular, where they targeted people wearing gold,” the Prosecutor is quoted as saying.

Due to their vague definitions, the charges of moharebeh (enmity against god), efsad-fil-arz (corruption on earth) and baghy (armed rebellion) are used for a wide range of offences. Additionally, as they are within the Revolutionary Courts’ jurisdiction, there is considerable subjectivity in the judgements made in the cases.

In 2021, at least five people were executed on charges of moharebeh for armed robbery.
