3 Baluch Men Transferred for Execution; 24 Executions in Past Week

Iran Human Rights (IHRNGO); June 10, 2022: Three Baluch prisoners were transferred to solitary confinement in preparation for their executions in Zabol Prison today. Iran Human Rights has recorded 24 executions in the last week, an average of one execution every eight hours. Of those, 14 were Baluch minorities.

Condemning the current unprecedented wave of executions, Iran Human Rights calls on the international community for appropriate action.

Iran Human Rights Director, Mahmood Amiry-Moghaddam said: “The international community must break its silence on the wave of executions in Iran, especially the disproportionate execution of Baluch prisoners. We call on human rights organisations, civil activists inside and outside Iran to act to stop further executions.”

According to Hal Vash, three Baluch men were transferred to solitary confinement in preparation for their executions in Zabol Prison on 10 June. Their identities have been reported as 27-year-old Aminollah Barahouyi (Narouyi), known as Mehrollah and 34-year-old Sanollah Bahadorzehi (Narouyi), both Zahak natives who were sentenced to death for drug-related charges in the same case.

The third man, Rasam Poudineh, was sentenced to qisas (retribution-in-kind) for murder.

Iran Human Rights has recorded 24 executions in prisons across Iran in the past week, an average of one execution every eight hours. Of those, 14 were Baluch minorities.

In a report published on 8 June, Iran Human Rights reported that at least 168 people were executed in the first five months of 2022, 50%  more than the executions recorded for the same period in 2021 (110 executions). Since its publication two days ago, another execution has been confirmed to have taken place on 31 May, increasing the number of executions to 169 in January-May 2022.

The current unprecedented wave of executions in Iran started escalating with the start of the nationwide protests on 7 May, reaching its peak last week.
