According to Hengaw who first reported news of the execution, Fardin was 30 years old.

Speaking to Iran Human Rights, an informed source said: “Fardin Kalahouyi was arrested around three years ago on murder charges related to a tribal war in Kalehou village in Kermanshah, dating back 40 years which had led to 60 deaths and had continued for years. He went to the village to avenge his father and other relatives and killed two youths and injured a woman from the same family.”

Despite more than a month passing, his execution has not been reported by domestic media or officials in Iran.

According to data gathered by Iran Human Rights, at least 183 people were executed on murder charges in 2021. Those charged with the umbrella term of “intentional murder” are sentenced to qisas (retribution-in-kind) regardless of intent or circumstances due to a lack of grading in law. Once a defendant has been convicted, the victim’s family are required to choose between death as retribution, diya (blood money) or forgiveness.
