One man was hanged in public in Isfahan (Central Iran) today

Iran Human Rights, January 26: One man identified as Jamshid Hadian (52) was hanged in public in the central Iranian city of Isfahan this morning reported the state run Iranian news agencies.

Mr. Hadian was convicted of shoting to death the vise prosecutor general of Isfahan’s revolutionary court in March 2009.

According to the official Iranian news agency IRNA, the chiefe prosecutor of Isfahans revolutionary courts, Mr. Mohammadreza Habibi, said in a speech at the site of the public hanging: " The (Iranian) judiciary treats anyone who is involved in disruption of law and order and terrorism in a hard way".

According to the sources Iran Human Rights have been in contact with, large numbers of security forces were present in the streets of Isfahan, especially areas near the hanging site since last night.

We have also received reports about detention of some people in conncetion with the hanging. Human rights organizations had urged people to protest against the public hanging.
