One man was hanged in public in the southwestern city of Mahshahr

Iran Human Rights, April 13: One man was hanged in public in the city of Mahshahr, in the southwest Iranian province of Khuzestan according to reliable sources Iran Human Rights has been in contact with.

According to these sources the hanging took place this morning (Tuesday April 13.) in public.

The man was identified as Adnan Alboali (28) and was convicted of moharebeh for armed robbery.

The news was later confirmed by one of the official local news websites. According to this website that had interviewd the man yesterday, the man wasn’t aware of that he was going to be hanged one day later.

This is the third public hanging that has taken place in Khuzestan province during the past six days. Three other people were hanged in public in the city of Ahvaz (capital of the province) in March 2010.

Mahmood Amiry-Moghaddam, the spokesperson of the Iran Human Rights, said:" This (public hanging) is a barbaric act and a crime against the victim as well as the public". He continued: "By these acts, the Iranian authorities want to spread fear among the people. We are expecting increasing number of executions as we get closer to the anniversary of the June uprising".
