Sadegh Afkandeh and Ali Mohammad Saeedi Executed in Zanjan

Iran Human Rights (IHRNGO); October 17, 2022: Sadegh Afkandeh and Ali Mohammad Saeedi were executed in Zanjan Central Prison.

According to information obtained by Iran Human Rights, two men were executed in Zanjan Central Prison on October 13. Their identities have been established as 43-year-old Sadegh Afkandeh (pictured) who was sentenced to death for drug-related offences and Ali Mohammad Saeedi who was sentenced to qisas(retribution-in-kind) for murder.

Informed sources told Iran Human Rights that Sadegh Afkandeh was arrested for drug charges around four years ago and had been held in Zanjan Central Prison since.

At the time of writing, their executions have not been reported by domestic media or officials in Iran.

At least 251 including 6 women and 67 Baluch minorities were executed in the first six months of 2022. This is double the number of executions in the same period in 2021 when 117 people were executed. On September 10, Iran Human Rights recorded over 400 executions for the first time in five years.
