Baluch Abdolvase Barahouyi and Issa Narouyi Executed in Zahedan

Iran Human Rights (IHRNGO); December 14, 2022: Abdolvase Barahouyi and Issa Narouyi, two Baluch men sentenced to death for murder and drug-related charges, were executed in Zahedan Central Prison.

According to Hal Vash, a Baluch man was executed in Zahedan Central Prison on December 10.  His identity has been reported as 30-year-old Abdolvase Barahouyi (Zirkari) who was sentenced to qisas (retribution-in-kind) for murder. Abdolvase was undocumented like many other Baluch.

On December 11, another Baluch man was executed at the prison. 38-year-old Issa Narouyi was sentenced to death for drug-related charges by the Revolutionary Court.

His execution was carried out without notification to his family who were deprived of the chance to say goodbye. Issa was a father of four.

At the time of writing, their executions have not been reported by domestic media or officials in Iran.

Those charged with the umbrella term of “intentional murder” are sentenced to qisas (retribution-in-kind) regardless of intent or circumstances due to a lack of grading in law. Once a defendant has been convicted, the victim’s family are required to choose between death as retribution, diya (blood money) or forgiveness.

More than 500 people including 2 juvenile offenders have been executed in 2022, the highest annual execution since 2017.
