Iran Human Rights (IHRNGO); December 17, 2022: Prisoners in Ward 4 of Karaj Penitentiary protested with chants of “death to Khamenei”, “death to the Islamic Republic” and “death to dictator” after a prisoner was transferred to solitary confinement in preparation for their execution.

According to information obtained by Iran Human Rights, prisoners in Ward 4 of Karaj Penitentiary staged a protest after one of their cellmates was transferred to solitary confinement in preparation for their execution in Karaj Penitentiary on December 17.

They broke CCTV, blocked entrances and chanted “death to Khamenei”, “death to the Islamic Republic” and “death to dictator.”

According to informed sources, Wards 1, 2 and 3 where many detained protesters are held, also staged protests.

The unrest is ongoing at the time of writing and there are serious concerns about its bloody crackdown.

At least two prisons in Tehran and Rasht have seen protests since the start of the current nationwide protests. Several prisoners lost their lives as a result of the brutal response by authorities.
