Farhad Karimi Executed for Murder in Kermanshah

Iran Human Rights (IHRNGO); January 5, 2023: Farhad Karimi who was sentenced to qisas (retribution-in-kind) for murder, has been executed in Kermanshah Central Prison.

According to information obtained by Iran Human Rights, a man was executed in Kermanshah Central Prison on January 4. His identity has been established as 46-year-old Farhad (Farah) Karimi from a village in Paveh who was sentenced to qisas for murder.

An informed source told Iran Human Rights: “He had committed an honour killing with a weapon, 5km from his village. He had a daughter and a son and had spent three years behind bars.”

At the time of writing, his execution has not been reported by domestic media or officials in Iran.

Those charged with the umbrella term of “intentional murder” are sentenced to qisas (retribution-in-kind) regardless of intent or circumstances due to a lack of grading in law. Once a defendant has been convicted, the victim’s family are required to choose between death as retribution, diya (blood money) or forgiveness.
