Sadollah Karimi-Sarini Executed for Murder in Kermanshah

Iran Human Rights (IHRNGO); January 6, 2023: Sadollah Karimi-Sarani, a man sentenced to qisas (retribution-in-kind) for murder, was executed in Kermanshah Central Prison.

According to information obtained by Iran Human Rights, a man was executed in Kermanshah Central Prison on January 4. His identity has been established as 42-year-old Sadollah Karimi-Sarini who was sentenced to qisas for murder.

An informed source told Iran Human Rights: “Sadollah was from Sarin village in Kermanshah. He was arrested for the murder of his brother-in-law two years ago and sentenced to death. His family begged the victim’s family for their forgiveness until the last minute but they refused.”

Iran Human Rights previously reported the execution of Farhad Karimi at the prison that day, bringing the number of executions to two.

At the time of writing, neither of their executions have been reported by domestic media or officials in Iran.

Those charged with the umbrella term of “intentional murder” are sentenced to qisas (retribution-in-kind) regardless of intent or circumstances due to a lack of grading in law. Once a defendant has been convicted, the victim’s family are required to choose between death as retribution, diya (blood money) or forgiveness.
